We are still here....

Sorry it has been so long since I have posted anything. We have been a bit busy I guess.

We had our first little scare with Brooke on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. At about 10pm I had picked her up and noticed she was breathing a little fast and I had felt her head and she was really sweaty. I didn't really think too much about it. She was to eat at 11pm so I layed her down and did a few things in the kitchen thinking she would start to stir soon. I ended up laying on the couch for a minute and fell asleep. I woke up at midnight and figured I better wake her up to feed her. I went to change her diaper and she wasn't wet at all and so I just fed her. She only took an ounce or so and was OUT. She was a little cold so I just bundled her up with another blanket (she had a onesie, sleeper, flannel swaddle blanket, sleeping on top of a sherpa blanket). At about 2:30am her apnea monitor went off that she had a low heartrate. The first alarm I figured it was a false alarm. I moved her around a little and she was okay. Then about 15 minutes later it went off again for the same thing. So I turned on the light and picked her up and started looking her over. She was very cold. I took her temperature and it was 96.0 degrees!!!! I was thinking in my head that i knew that high temps cause high heartrate so the low temp probably causes low heartrate. I was conversing with my sister and a friend thru texts and they thought I should call the pediatrician.

So I did. I was worried about the temp as well as her not wanting to eat at all since about 8pm. The doctor suggested I take her clothes off and take my shirt off and do skin to skin for about 15 minutes and if that didn't warm her up to at least 98, then to take her in to the ER. I tried that and it didn't bring her up too much and I just didn't feel good about it so at about 4am, I woke up Matt and Jack and Jack, Brooke and I headed to the ER (matt had to go open the store). They took her right back and started a septic work up on her and put her in a warmer bed. She warmed up in about a half hour and her heartrate came right back up.

We had a terrible time in the ER but I won't get into that. SO UNIMPRESSED!!!! They ended up admitted her to the pediatric unit for observation and we waited for blood and urine cultures to come back. She went thru the ringer. Blood draw, IV in her poor little foot, chest xray, heel stick, catheter (x3 because the nurse wasn't good), another blood draw). That night was terrible. She screamed all night long!!! She has never been much of a fussy baby so I thought for sure something was wrong with her. I even offered my sister $50 to leave work and come and make her happy...hahah. Needless to say she couldn't leave work but she did help me out in the morning!!!!!

All her tests came back negative so we didn't really get an answer as to what happened and why her temp dropped so low. They think that maybe when she had the little sweating episode that she had had a fever and that's when it broke....and when it broke it dropped a low and she doesn't have enough brown fat (baby fat) to regulate a normal temp and so it just kept dropping. And the heartrate drop is a direct relationship to the temperature.

She has been good since and has been eating better than ever!!!

AND................

As Brooke is in the hospital, Jack was at my parents and he woke up in the middle of the night with a fever. I took him in to the doc right before Brooke got discharged and they just said it was a virus. He is still running a fever today so it looks like we will be taking him back in tomorrow.

WHEN IT RAINS, IT POURS...............RIGHT?!?!

(new pictures coming soon.....relatively soon!! :-)
