We are still here....

Sorry it has been so long since I have posted anything. We have been a bit busy I guess.

We had our first little scare with Brooke on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. At about 10pm I had picked her up and noticed she was breathing a little fast and I had felt her head and she was really sweaty. I didn't really think too much about it. She was to eat at 11pm so I layed her down and did a few things in the kitchen thinking she would start to stir soon. I ended up laying on the couch for a minute and fell asleep. I woke up at midnight and figured I better wake her up to feed her. I went to change her diaper and she wasn't wet at all and so I just fed her. She only took an ounce or so and was OUT. She was a little cold so I just bundled her up with another blanket (she had a onesie, sleeper, flannel swaddle blanket, sleeping on top of a sherpa blanket). At about 2:30am her apnea monitor went off that she had a low heartrate. The first alarm I figured it was a false alarm. I moved her around a little and she was okay. Then about 15 minutes later it went off again for the same thing. So I turned on the light and picked her up and started looking her over. She was very cold. I took her temperature and it was 96.0 degrees!!!! I was thinking in my head that i knew that high temps cause high heartrate so the low temp probably causes low heartrate. I was conversing with my sister and a friend thru texts and they thought I should call the pediatrician.

So I did. I was worried about the temp as well as her not wanting to eat at all since about 8pm. The doctor suggested I take her clothes off and take my shirt off and do skin to skin for about 15 minutes and if that didn't warm her up to at least 98, then to take her in to the ER. I tried that and it didn't bring her up too much and I just didn't feel good about it so at about 4am, I woke up Matt and Jack and Jack, Brooke and I headed to the ER (matt had to go open the store). They took her right back and started a septic work up on her and put her in a warmer bed. She warmed up in about a half hour and her heartrate came right back up.

We had a terrible time in the ER but I won't get into that. SO UNIMPRESSED!!!! They ended up admitted her to the pediatric unit for observation and we waited for blood and urine cultures to come back. She went thru the ringer. Blood draw, IV in her poor little foot, chest xray, heel stick, catheter (x3 because the nurse wasn't good), another blood draw). That night was terrible. She screamed all night long!!! She has never been much of a fussy baby so I thought for sure something was wrong with her. I even offered my sister $50 to leave work and come and make her happy...hahah. Needless to say she couldn't leave work but she did help me out in the morning!!!!!

All her tests came back negative so we didn't really get an answer as to what happened and why her temp dropped so low. They think that maybe when she had the little sweating episode that she had had a fever and that's when it broke....and when it broke it dropped a low and she doesn't have enough brown fat (baby fat) to regulate a normal temp and so it just kept dropping. And the heartrate drop is a direct relationship to the temperature.

She has been good since and has been eating better than ever!!!

AND................

As Brooke is in the hospital, Jack was at my parents and he woke up in the middle of the night with a fever. I took him in to the doc right before Brooke got discharged and they just said it was a virus. He is still running a fever today so it looks like we will be taking him back in tomorrow.

WHEN IT RAINS, IT POURS...............RIGHT?!?!

Brooke's Newborn photo shoot

Here is a sneak peek of Brooke's photo shoot today with our awesome photographer Laura Ritchie (http://www.adifferentanglefw.com/). She is amazing and we always have such a fun time with her!!! She has done Jack's pictures since he was almost 2 and our family pictures. Also I just got some awesome headpieces for Brooke too from Jill with Obaby Boutique. (She is on etsy) and she does great work too. So we accessorized Brooke a lot today!!! Stay tuned for more of where this came from!!!

She's HOME!!!

She's home!!! Sorry it's taken me a few days to post that we are all safe and sound and home. I've been a busy woman!

We got home with her Friday, March 5 right before noon and we have all been doing great. A little sleep deprived on my end and a little crooked nose on Jack's end but other than that, we are doing good. She already has had an appointment with our pediatrician and she gained 5 oz in 3 days so that's AWESOME!!! We have been worried about the amount of food she has taken in but it seems like she is doing good. She does sleep about 3 hours at a time but between the grunts and squeaks, I never sleep!!! We need to rearrange the sleeping places and hopefully that will help. Right now, she sleeps in the playpen downstairs and I sleep on the couch so that I can feed her and then pump every 3 hours but that means NO sleep. So I think tonight she will be in her room that way when I hear her I don't HAVE to get up unless I know she is waking to eat. We'll see how that goes. Matt's not a huge fan yet so it might not happen.

Anyway, all is well. I will be posting more pictures soon

Brooke is coming home!

SHE'S COMING HOME......friday!!!

The doctor came in today and said that she was going to order a pneumogram tonight to see if she will need a monitor to come home on. Depending on what that says, she will be coming home tomorrow or Friday. Most likely it will be Friday since she has been having heartrate drops with her feedings.

I couldn't be more excited. We are going to finally be a family of FOUR.....at HOME!!!! I know Jack will be VERY excited when things are back to a "new" normal and he can be home every night with mommy and daddy!!!! I am SO excited for him to see his sister and hold her and kiss her head and all of that. I have tears in my eyes just thinking about them together!!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!

so tonight Brooke will be getting her hepatitis B vaccine and a synagis (RSV) shot and then have a car seat test. (She has to sit in her car seat for 1.5 hours without having any breathing problems or heart rate drops) and then she will have the pneumogram from 9pm-9am. They hook her up to more wires and it will monitor her breathing, her sats, her pulse and her heartrate in more detail than the monitor she is already on. After the results of that we will take a refresher CPR class and probably "room in" with her tomorrow night (stay the night at thehospital) and then go home FRIDAY!!!!

YAY!!!!! She is also now wireless on her face!!!!! SUPER CUTE!!! She is looking more like Jack everyday!!!!! What do you think???
